This was my second book project. A result of a total obsession for over four months, I only took some time off from this because it was Christmas! I meant this to be a Christmas present, I did not meet that deadline. I used all my crafty skills to make these, and wow!

They are a set of books about the world of Harry Potter, lists of spells and potions and the like. I got the idea from a friend of mine who also has a niece that is obsessed with all things Harry Potter so I had some help, however, the bookbinding was the result of all mine own research.

The two black books are traditionally bound with a soft rounded spine and covered with imitation leather. They decorated with some great, but super finicky, decals made by Tim Holtz. Only some of them wanted to transfer some of the time. I did get them to work in the end because they were so perfect! I also found heat transferable foil that I could use my heat tool on to add some of the lined details.
I made a journal (the book with the arrow on the spine) that I modeled the binding after the Moleskin books which ended up being a variation of the other ones since it also had a soft rounded spine.

This book has the flashiest spine but is actually a very easy book to make! I used the Secret Belgian Binding for this book and I have done it many times since. It is super great for sketch books since the pages lay flat. I found the best instructions from Herringbone Bindery which is a great website.
Finally a set like this needs a case!

This had to be made after all the books were made so it could be measured accurately. Books require so much precise measuring! I used more imitation leather but I didn’t like the color so I glazed it down with a mix of metallic pigment in sealer to make it more magical.

This was an amazing project and such a learning experience!
