My friend turned 50 this year, so what better than a boozy cocktail card to celebrate! Inspired by martinis and accordion music, this card is meant to be just pure fun.
Last summer, in a small record shop in Santa Fe I couldn’t resist picking up a couple of 9 inch records off the free pile. Their covers were just asking to be put on a card and finally here was my chance! I loved the image on this one and the playlist (A song called “Who’s Sorry Now?” and “Stumbling” love it!) And my friend and I did watch all of Mad Men together.
Then is was just a matter of scanning the cover and editing out what I wanted. I isolated the heart and couple image and printed it out on vellum and cut strips of bright paper to go behind it. I used my Silhouette Portrait to cut out the numbers “50” and I covered them with fuchsia glitter.
I wanted more cocktail glasses and I printed them out on acetate and since the card was badly needing more glitter, I made glittery drinks! I finished the card off with some little red hearts and her name stamped out in metal.
I wanted my friend to have some sense of the original cover and enjoy the playlist, I put it on the inside cover of the card. I also got to use some very old, but still good!, clear stamps of martini glasses. That is why I don’t get rid of stuff, you never know when you are going to want it!
My friend loved the card and my only regret is that it didn’t play Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass when you opened it.
Cheers!
