Pride and Prejudice

My mother is a big fan of Jane Austen so I made and bound a copy of Pride and Prejudice to go with the copy of Sense and Sensibility that I made a couple of years ago!

Book binding supplies

I had purchased the book block of Sense and Sensibility, but for this one I wanted to do the text myself. After a massive amount of editing (it longer mostly because I was using the wrong program) I was able to print out my edit of Pride and Prejudice.

Then on to the fun part, the binding! I chose different papers and fabric for this book, but I wanted it to coordinate with S&S so I did the same type of monogram on the front. Both of them are inset into the book boards.

I wanted to improve my method of foiling the title on the spine with my Silhouette and Foil Quill tools. After some experimentation I have found that on fabric, if you burnish it first (I just let the Foil Quill tool run over the design without foil first) the foil goes on more evenly and if I lined the spine first, you get a more pronounced de-bossing which I really like.

The letters are still outlined, but I’m otherwise I was very happy with how it turned out.

I was much happier with the construction of this book, but I still need to work on my rounding and backing of the spine, but that just means, more book making!
