Most of my cards are for birthdays and holidays but every once in a while I do a card for an specific event, like getting a new job. A friend of mine was leaving his drab job for one at a plant shop and I had to commemorate the event!
My idea was to create my idea of what his new job was going to be like. I was also inspired by this collection of images that I had, Welcome to Urban Jungle.
My idea was big, I wanted a whole plant store, and in contrast, something to represent the daily grind of the unhappy job (whoa, things just got really conceptual there!) So I decided to do a triptych card (or is a bi-fold, I don’t know, maybe both.) For the outside I used my deep embossing folder of metal plates and my gear die.
I also got to use my label maker, I love that thing!
The images that I had were vector images, which I was able to take advantage of and cut them on my Silhouette machine. Some I printed and cut, and some I cut out of colored cardstock. Not my best idea. The printed plants did not look as good as the colored cardstock ones. In real life the difference was not as bad as in the photographs, but in the future I will not mix the two like that. I would print and cut the pots and do cardstock for the plants maybe, just keep it consistent with the type of image.
But really, it turned out pretty great! You have this industrial front…
and then…plants and cats!
As you can see, there is no place to write anything, so it has to go on the back!
I really do love this card, the cats are so cute! I know my friend loved the card too, even though the plant store does not have cats lounging around it, which is too bad.
