This summer I was so lucky to attend a class at the American Academy of Bookbinding. It was so great and it motivated me to make up a bunch of my book parts that have been hanging around for way to long.
I was just in the introductory class so it was going over the basics, but we made so many books!
Armed with some good techniques and some time off I got to work on my own projects!
I don’t really sell my stuff (it’s way more fun to make something special for someone and give it away) but I am looking into perhaps selling some blank books. So I made quite a few of these. It took over my whole dining table and it was a bit painful to get the last ones finished, but it was so worth it!
I have posted about making these pamphlet books (sometimes called chapbooks) so you can see more on how these are made. I hand cut and perforated pages, glue on decorative spines and sew the whole thing together!
I also have been wanting to make even smaller books. The mediums ones are 5 1/2″ x 4″ and I made a bunch that are about 3 1/2″ x 2″ and they are so cute!
These are very simply made with decorative paper covers. A good way to get rid of scraps of paper! I do want to make more of these and make the covers a bit more substantial.
I still have more to do but this has been a great start and maybe I will get around to selling these fun little books!
