Father’s Day is almost here and I actually got my card done in plenty of time! I am crafting away from home so I have had limited supplies but it has been fun to just use what I do have (and I did break down and buy some stuff.)
One big thing thing I do have this summer is my printer! I got one of those fancy supertank ones that have lots of ink and it has been fun being able to just print all I want. Mostly I have been catching up on printing out vacation photos, but also doing some crafty stuff. The other main supply I have is crepe paper (more about that on a future post) so I thought I might as well incorporate some of that.
Originally I was going to do a camping theme since I had picked up a pack of paper with that theme at Joann’s but when I started to mess around with the crepe paper, I thought “Cactus!”

The paper has such nice texture and folds nicely so I fashioned a saguaro by just pleating a piece, rounding the top, adding a bit of glue up there, and then squishing the whole thing into shape. I played around with a couple of prickly pear variations, the reject was making the pads fully dimensional, like little pillows, but just cutting the pieces and cupping them a bit was a cleaner look.
I couldn’t resist adding some flowers on top, so cute!
For the background, I still used some of my camping themed paper and I printed out a postcard image. This was an image that I had considered for a past Father’s Day card but it was a bit blurry so I didn’t use it. For this card I liked that it was a bit fuzzy, though I did do some photo magic to crisp it up a bit. I liked the cacti and everything else just fine but as usual, I have to add just one more thing. A dad license plate!
This also took some computer magic. I found a good font and a good image of the license palate and I put the “Dad” on top of the other letters. The numbers don’t mean anything, they were just part of the original image. I just had to use the old Arizona plate with the saguaro on it!
The inside of the card was pretty straight forward for me but I used another item that I have with me, a sewing kit.
I did get some tiny brads, which I used on the front of the card, but I thought some stitching would look good with the tooled leather looking paper that I had.
The finished card!
I am very pleased with this card and I think my dad will like it!
