It is Mother’s Day again! Flowers and birds are always a good choice for my mom and she likes birdcages so they all go together well. This year, however, the card needed a bit more so I added a hat!
This card started with the flower and bird image. I got a new printer and some new velum and I needed some images to try out and this was one of my tests. I still have trouble with the velum, but I did find the best settings for it.
I also had to test the printer on photo paper, so I printed out the bird and cut it out on my Silhouette cutter. Then I decorated a wooden birdcage cut out. I used a white gel pen to accent the etching and sprayed it with some glitter spray for some shimmer.
The velum image had a nice fuzzy quality, I embraced the bit of bleed from the printer, and the crisp cut out bird made a nice contrast. The printed paper was too much behind the image so I put a white piece of paper behind it and it kept the colors nice.
I put everything on a printed card (I believe from an Anna Griffin kit) and it needed that something more. I pulled out some stamps (also from an Anna Griffin kit that I got many, many years ago,) and stamped a hat, a flower and the inside stamp.
On the inside I used my Mother’s day stamp and I put the rectangular stamp image to fill out the blank space on the opposite side.

I don’t really know what all these elements really have to do with each other, but I feel it works!
Happy Mother’s Day!
