For Valentine’s Day this year I had a hard time getting inspired. I knew some of the design elements I wanted to use, but I had nothing to hold it together, and then I came up with the sentiment that I wanted to use inside and there it was! the Spread the Love Card.

One of the first things I worked on was the background paper. I had picked up some minty foil (yay for Joann’s clearance) and I had a jasmine floral pattern that I adapted for the foiling. The foil was more pearly than shiney and it worked out so well on the silver velum I used it on.
My next hurdle was a heart. I had been drawing hearts since Christmas, but none of them looked good, then I came up with one! I scanned it, gave it a little more substance on the computer and then cut a bunch out on my Silhouette Portrait.

And then there were the flowers, so many flowers! Spreading love apparently means lots and lots of flowers. I stamped flowers, I stamped and embossed flowers, and I cut flowers out on the Silhouette, so many!
I tried to use the Pixscan mat to cut out my stamped flowers, but that only works so well and when right at the end and I wanted MORE flowers, I just cut them out by hand.

Some of the flowers were just stuck on flat and some I used tiny pieces of foam tape to pop them out. I also made two variations of the card, one with the heart leaning left, and the other leaning right. I like for them to not to all be completely the same.

Finally the inside, I really wanted to have something a bit more meaningful than just “Happy Valentine’s Day” and the phrase “Spread a little love today” popped into my head (sorry if someone else came up with this, it was unconscious on my part) and I printed it and put it in all the cards.

So this was my attempt at making a more minimalist card. I did succeed at using a more restrained color palette (I would have used a less bright blue, but you just run out of time for changes) but the sheer amount of flowers makes it NOT minimalist. That’s okay, I like to set some challenges and just except what comes out!
Well, spread a little love in your life. I think we could all use it!
