My Halloween card for 2020! It all started with a windmill…and the windmill made me think of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. And this is the card I made!

As I said, this card started with a windmill, and instead of finding a vintage picture, I decided to draw one! After a bunch of sketches and some not-so-great digital watercolor experiments I came up with a pen and ink drawing I was happy with. I also drew a jack o’ lantern, to go along with the Sleepy Hollow theme.

I also got out my typewriter, which is always fun. I have a big manual office machine which is awesome because I can type all the way to the edge of the page and cover an entire 81/2 x 11 sheet of paper! Staying on theme, I typed out a scary passage from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I then scanned all these original sources into my computer.

All my pictures were manipulated in Affinity Photo. I made the type lighter and more sepia toned and I printed out copies on a cream colored paper, which I aged. I tried again with the digital watercolor for the windmill and pumpkin drawings and I was much more successful. I really like how the pumpkin turned out.

The windmill image was printed out on velum, and the jack o’ lanterns on photo paper. I did use my Silhouette cutting machine to print and cut the pumpkins out. I also used the Silhouette to cut the trees. They are cut out of a heavy card stock and I used some glitter spray to make them sparkle!

On the inside of the card I got to use some cute pumpkin paper that I had. I also used a fun Halloween stamp that mentions goblins and ghouls which also was on the Sleepy Hollow theme!

The finished cards!

Have a spooky Halloween!
