Quilled Bees and Paper Flower Card

Time for a summery card! This was for my sister’s birthday and I wanted something bright and cheerful. How can you beat flowers, bees and a bonus butterfly!

This card started with wanting to do some quilling and this postcard image that I bought at IKEA. Bees seemed like the perfect thing to go with the flowers!

Of course, just having the bees on the flat image seemed super boring, so I got out my crepe paper and made the daisies dimensional.

I was happy with the card so far with the bees and the flowers, but I wanted a bit more color, so I made a quilled butterfly. At first I made a more realistic colored one, but then realized that I wanted something brighter, so the butterfly ended up pink and purple. So much cuter.

The inside I kept colorful and simple, but the best part was adding the bee and ladybug brads!

Note on mailing a quilled card: Since this card needed to be mailed I did a bunch of research and I decided to just put it in a big envelope, one of those 6×9 manila ones, and put a thin piece of cardboard on top of the quilling. Paper on edge is very strong and the quilled bits survived the mail without being crushed, however, the bees weren’t glued on well enough and they fell off! So it was sort of a success and I will not be afraid of sending quilling in the mail, you just need to make sure the bits are all glued down well!

My sister really liked the card, but my niece stole all the bees that fell off, at least I have pictures!
