Tool Chest Card

For my Father’s birthday I decided to make a tool chest card. I had purchased a cool extra deep embossing folder of metal plates and I couldn’t wait to use it!

It took a couple tries to get the embossing to be nice and deep, including a totally failed experiment with trying to fill the paper with modeling paste (just made a mushy mess but I still think the idea was good!) Really just making sure the paper is damp is really the key. I let it dry in the folder to try and help it keep it’s shape, but I don’t know if it really helps. I used some handmade paper that was coated silver and it did really great and didn’t tear or anything.

A bunch of the stuff I used for the card!

With that made I still had to make the rest of the card.  I went for a tool chest so I cut out on my Silhouette some tool shapes that I had out of pretty metallic paper.  I then used metallic wax to color different parts of the tools.

I’ve been trying to use up some of my cardstock so I went just with brown but I used some of my super cool distressed looking paper for the inside where the tools lived.

It was also a good time to use some of my measuring tape washi tape to add some more interest inside the card.

To bring out a little more of the depth of the embossing I used some markers to add some shadows to the plates and it really helped.  Sometimes it’s fun to have a fairly plain card on the outside to have some treasures on the inside!
