Poe Halloween Card

This is last year’s Halloween card. I love using literary references for Halloween and that year I went with a Edgar Allen Poe theme and came up with this Tell-Tale Heart card.

I wanted it to be like a little book so I started by typing out excerpts from The Tell-Tale Heart for the background paper which I then aged down. With my Silhouette cutter, I designed and cut out the window. It is kinda hard to see, but there is a piece of acetate which I printed out a gate image and put it directly behind the window.

I printed out the eyeglass image on velum and colored one eye blue-which is from the story if you know it- and glued it on the background paper.

Finally you get to the heart! I used some doubled sided cardstock to make the “floorboards” and made the window for the heart.

I bound the whole thing together with a spidery binding.

It turned out super cool and was way to involved so I only made one of these. I made simpler versions, all using the window cut out, and did different Poe stories and even the simpler ones were fun to make too!
